Dama Al-Aman child protection policy

Child protection policy

The Dama Al-Aman Child Protection Policy (November 2023) reflects Abu Dhabi’s commitment to protecting every child. Endorsed by the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and grounded in Wadeema’s Law, it sets a clear foundation for how children are kept safe across the Emirate.

The policy brings together government entities, families, communities, and service providers with one shared goal — keeping every child safe.

It clearly defines the roles and responsibilities of everyone who works with or cares for children, helping ensure early protection, prevention, and timely action whenever a child may be at risk.

  • Every child’s best interests come first — always
  • Families are supported to help keep children safe
  • All children are protected equally, without discrimination
  • Protecting children is everyone’s responsibility, and concerns must be reported
  • Children’s privacy, dignity, and voices are respected
  • Services work together as one coordinated system
  • Clear reporting channels and regular reviews ensure children remain protected

Dama Al-Aman child protection policy actions

The Dama Al-Aman child protection policy sets clear responsibilities for all organizations working with children in Abu Dhabi — across government, private, and community sectors.

The policy creates one shared approach to protecting children, focusing on six key areas:

  • Raising awareness and preventing harm
  • Making it easy to report concerns
  • Early identification and timely response
  • Coordinated support and case management
  • Using research and data to improve protection
  • Training professionals who work with children
  • All entities are legally required to establish child protection measures, report concerns, and follow coordinated procedures. By working together and sharing responsibility, partners ensure that the best interests of every child guide every decision
